Katie SaramutinaMy name is Katie Saramutina. I am an animal behaviourist specialising in cats.
I have loved animals since childhood and have always felt a special connection with them. But cats hold a special place in my heart. I think they are misunderstood surprisingly often. In books, cartoons and films, cats are often portrayed as sly, mean or indifferent. But I am certain that there is no such thing as a bad cat. Many ideas about their character arise because people do not always understand feline behaviour, their needs and the way they live.
Cats are neither dogs nor humans. They have their own way of seeing the world, their own rules and their own ways of showing what they like and what they do not. The more I learn about cats, the more convinced I become of how important it is to learn to see familiar things from their perspective.
My first degree was in chemistry. I have always enjoyed figuring out how and why things work, looking for explanations and testing my assumptions. Over time, this curiosity came together with my love of animals and led me to study their behaviour. I completed professional retraining in animal psychology and earned a diploma, but of course my learning did not end there.
I regularly read new scientific research on cats, including studies in English, to keep up with what scientists around the world are discovering. I am interested not only in what we already know about feline behaviour, but also in how our understanding changes over time. My work draws on scientific knowledge and practical experience with cats.
I believe that loving animals means not only caring for them and showing affection, but also trying to understand them. Sometimes what looks to us like a whim, spite or disobedience is actually connected to fear, discomfort or unmet needs.
That is why, in my work, I aim not simply to help change a cat’s behaviour, but to work with you to understand its causes and find solutions that take into account both your cat’s needs and what is manageable for your family. To make your life together calmer, more comfortable and happier.
My training in zoopsychology and work with cats.
